2010 - The Year Of Domestication
Now that my daughter is eating solid foods, I'm becoming more and more aware of my bad eating habits. Like Reese's Klondike Bars, sure they are tasty but a 17-month-old doesn't really need to be eating them. And chicken nuggets with fries sure is quick to fix, but as she eats them I can't help but be stabbed with pains of guilt that it's not really doing anything for her but filling her stomach. So I'm starting my New Year's resolution 31 days late, but start it I will and this year I resolve to learn to cook. I mean really cook, not just fry, microwave or bake processed foods.
This is going to be a challenge, as I am probably the world's foremost picky eater. Seriously, I won't eat anything if it contains even a hint of certain vegetables and my only fruit intake involves Pop Tart filling. So far my daughter takes after her father, in that she will try anything and has so far developed a love for fruit (the real stuff that grows on trees, vines, etc.)
So today is the day, and I'm going to start small. My husband has been asking me to get more salsa from a co-worker who's husband makes the stuff fresh. And I came across some recipes via Alton Brown (a Food hero) for salsa and guacamole that I vow to make exactly to recipe directions and sample for taste--although it will be hard as I am not a fan of any of the ingredients that go into either, with the exception of garlic.
I've been dabbling in cake decorating for some time as well, and though cake is not an essential food group I will not deviate from that hobby as cake is good. Cake is good.
So, although I'm not exactly sure anyone is reading these blog posts, it will not deter me from sharing with the world the wonders of becoming a domestic diva in addition to my day job of protecting the people of Kentucky with insurance. I'm also disorganized and a bit of a procrastinator, so I have my work cut out for me.
Now on to Salsa!
